Frequently asked questions about Microdermabrasion:

This advanced treatment removes the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells, to reveal a fresher, younger-looking face. Over time, this repeated process stimulates the production of a new layer of skin cells, bringing with it an increased level of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin’s appearance. Soul Care offers a new development that goes beyond micro-dermabrasion, combining diamond head exfoliation and solution infusion to deliver maximum results to any skin condition in half the time of any ordinary micro-dermabrasion.

Crystal or Diamond MicrodermabrasionIf you could remove that outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells, you would see that just below the surface lies a fresher, younger-looking face. That’s exactly what microdermabrasion treatments can do for you. By gently, precisely exfoliating the surface of your skin over a course of weekly sessions, treatments whisk away years of buildup, revealing a more beautiful you.

Brighter, clearer and more evenly toned skin is waiting for you in as little as four to six treatments. Over time, this repeated process stimulates the production of a new layer of skin cells, bringing with it an increased level of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin’s appearance.

Crystal microdermabrasion systems have been around for several years and the industry has made good use of the excellent work that they can do. However, in the last couple of  years we have seen an important step forward with the introduction of  diamond tipped treatment heads.

This process does two things, firstly it exfoliates the surface of the skin and, secondly, it stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and fibroblast (the underlying skins’ scaffolding). The aspiration (sucking) also draws blood to the surface of the skin giving a greater level of oxygenated blood in the dermis which automatically increases intercellular activity and the skins regeneration process.  Simple but extremely effective.

As we age, our production of collagen, elastin and fibroblast slows down,  but if we stimulate this production on a regular basis we will automatically have a stronger underlying substructure to the skin which will reduce the visible signs of ageing ie. lines and wrinkles.

Are diamonds really a girl’s best friend?

The answer is a simple yes, but let me explain why.

Conventional microdermabrasion systems fire a crystal or other particle at the skin, however with diamond heads the technician gently ‘strokes’ the skin with a clever, diamond-tipped treatment head.  The tip of this treatment head is encrusted with real diamonds and it is these diamonds which achieve the exfoliation of the skin.

Microdermabrasion is effective in reducing fine lines, “crow’s feet,” age spots and acne scars. It stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen. It has proven to be a very popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure;

What are the Benefits:

  • Virtually no side effects.
  • Gives the skin an overall fresh, healthy-looking glow.
  • Nonsurgical, safe, effective “lunch hour” procedure.
  • Effective on all skin colors and types.
  • No anesthetic required.
  • Excellent for skin sensitive to chemical procedures.
  • Normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Other Considerations:

  • Requires multiple sessions and maintenance treatments.
  • Patients with good skin tone will show best results.
  • An individualized skin care program may be recommended to maximize results.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a mini procedure that involves the removal of the stratum corneum (top) layer of the skin; dead skin cells.  Microdermabrasion also promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layer of the dermis.  It can clean your pores incredibly and hinder any future breaks outs if used on a regular basis.  Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen net working to further even out skin texture and appearance.

Are You a Candidate For Microdermabrasion?

The best candidates for microdermabrasion are individuals with acne prone and blotchy skin, small scars, rhytides, keratoses, large pores, milia, or sebaceous hyperplasia.  If you have sun damage or uneven texture and would like to improve the condition of your skin, you may be a good candidate for Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is not recommended for those who have active keloids, undiagnosed lesions, recent herpes outbreaks, warts, active, weeping acne (stages 3 to 4), active rosacea, unstable diabetes or auto-immune system disorders.

Does Microdermabrasion Hurt?

Microdermabrasion does not hurt although it may sting a little around the eye area.  The patient normally works up to a level as they go to increase the penetration to the skin.  Your skin may feel a little hot and appear a little pink for the first day.

You should be perfectly fine that night.  Although really intense micro- dermabrasion treatments may leave you pink for several days.

What to Expect

During a Treatment?

People have attributed the sensation of a microdermabrasion treatment to a slight windburn. Although depending upon the level that you wish to reach the discomfort is usually quite minimal, if at all.  The treatments typically last 20 to 30 minutes for the face, if your treatment includes the neck and upper chest area, it may last up to an hour.

A normal course of microdermabrasion treatments varies between 4 to 8 at approximately 3-4 week intervals.  It is recommended that you schedule an additional treatment every 1 to 3 months to maintain your skin in excellent condition.  Most people actually feel and see a difference just after one or two treatments but schedule additional treatments to increase this improvement.

After The Treatment?

A rehydrating toner, moisturiser and sunscreen is applied to your skin prior to leaving.

Some redness is expected after a treatment, however this is not likely to persist more than a few hours.  The sensation of having a mild windburn or sunburn will also pass after a few hours.  Applying a high quality moisturizer to re-hydrate the skin at this point will help.

Avoid direct sun exposure for 7 days after a treatment. We do stress the importance of using a high quality sun protectant product as well as minimizing sun exposure.  Exposure to UV radiation is one of the key factors in speeding the skin aging process.

Avoid Alpha-Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic Acid products and skin exfoliation scrubs for 72 hours both before and after a treatment.

Avoid full face make-up, i.e. liquid foundations or pressed powder foundations for 24 hours after a treatment.  Eye make-up, lipstick etc. may be applied immediately after a treatment.

What Results Are Gained From Microdermabrasion?

Your skin will feel vibrant and healthy and you will notice an immediate difference in your softer, smoother skin.  There is virtually no recovery time, no discomfort and you can return to work immediately.

A series of microdermabrasion treatments can help reduce the look of fine lines and superficial wrinkles, remove thickened skin areas due to the impact of environmental factors and reduce the appearance of blemishes caused by sun damage.  Additionally, microdermabrasion can reduce the appearance of open pores by unclogging sebum (oil) build-up and eliminate white and black heads.

What Can’t Microdermabrasion Do?

Please be advised, raised or deeply pitted skin areas (possibly from old severe acne scars) and darker pigmented areas will require multiple treatments.  I must advise that while Microdermabrasion does is not the cure all for heavily damaged skin, it is a non invasive technique for those of you who do not need a serious laser or chemical peel treatment.

How Much Does Microdermabrasion Cost?

A single microdermabrasion treatment costs NZ$75.00 or $300.00 for 6 treatments.

When should I avoid Microdermabrasion?

You should NOT have a microdermabrasion treatment on the affected area if you have the following:

  • Undiagnosed lesions
  • Recent herpes outbreaks
  • Warts
  • Active, weeping acne (stages 3-4)
  • Active Rosacea
  • Unstable diabetes
  • Auto-immune system disorders
  • Some patients hyperpigment post-treatment. Lower pressures are used on follow-up treatments for these individuals.
  • Using Retin A religiously or just had a chemical peel
  • recently had laser surgery

Frequently asked questions about Hydradermabrasion:

6 STEP HYDRADERMABRASION

CLEANSE | EXFOLIATE | DETOX | REJUVENATE | INFUSE | HYDRATE

Our NEW 6 Step Hydradermabrasion treatment uses a combination of medical grade skin resurfacing and advanced biotechnologies to deeply clean, smooth, hydrate and firm the skin – giving you an immediately visible result while promoting long-term skin health – so that your skin will not only look younger, but act younger too!

STEP 1: CLEANSE

Your skin will be deeply cleansed with a unique combination of Lactic Acid AHA and ultrasonic waves to loosen and draw out excess oils and impurities from deep down in your skin’s pores. These excess secretions and impurities are then painlessly swept away by the ultrasonic device, leaving your skin’s pores perfectly clear and ready for the next step.

STEP 2: EXFOLIATE

Focusing on surface build-up, Hydradermabrasion is used to gently remove dead, dull skin cells from your skin’s surface while simultaneously stimulating the production of new cells deep within the dermal layer of the skin. Hydradermabrasion not only improves the skin’s tone, texture and colour but also increases the efficacy of skincare products by allowing for better penetration of active ingredients.

STEP 3: DETOX

Now with your skin prepped and ready for infusion, relaxing ultrasonic massage is used to infuse a potent cosmeceutical cocktail of highly active peptides and growth factors into the skin, supplying it with the important components needed to provide firmness and elasticity and overall skin health.

STEP 4: REJUVENATE

Using Radio Frequency (RF) current to gently heat the dermal skin tissue, infusing a purifying mask enriched with detoxifying serum, collagen and elastin. Production is further stimulated to grow and strengthen, creating surface support and tightening of fine lines and wrinkles without post-treatment downtime.

STEP 5: INFUSE

Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and Perfection Peptide is applied via cold hammer to cool and calm the skin, reducing residual heat and redness while feeding the skin with vital nutrients and hydration.

STEP 6: HYDRATE

The final step – Oxygen H20 serum infusion will drench your skin with highly concentrated molecules of purified oxygen and a customised skin serum to leave your skin with an illuminating glow that radiates from within.

IMPROVE SKIN TEXTURE, LINES AND WRINKLES AND SCARRING

Increase your collagen production, improve texture, reduce fine lines and scarring by stimulating collagen production.

Micro Needling uses the latest technology Needle System which delivers tailored serum deep into the dermis.

The treatment uses micro needles at varying lengths to penetrate skin, triggering our body’s own wound healing response. When our skin is damaged, it produces collagen tissue, which is stronger, and firmer than before. Downtime is relatively short. Over a course of treatments collagen fibres are strengthened and the skin becomes stronger, smoother, and firmer, with improved texture.

AFTER A COURSE OF TREATMENTS, YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Improved skin texture
  • Restored elasticity
  • Softer lines
  • Increased skin tightness
  • Reduced appearance of scarring

Guide To Led Light Therapy

How To Use Led Face Mask

When it comes to beauty, innovation is the not-so-secret recipe to unmasking your best skin yet. Gone are the days when every skincare enthusiast’s routine is limited only to cleansers, moisturisers, toners, and serums. While these are undeniably essential to achieving youthful, glowing complexion, there are now devices that can take your beauty experience a notch higher. One fine example is the trendy LED light therapy.

Light emitting diodes (LED) have long been in existence, but only in recent years has it gained popularity as a therapeutic agent for the skin. In fact, LED light therapy has been making headlines – no wonder why the beauty industry has been raving about it!

In this guide, we will walk you through every important detail – without leaving any question unanswered – about LED light therapies for skin.

LED Light Therapy for Skin: All Your Questions Answered

WHAT IS LED LIGHT THERAPY?

LED (light emitting diode) therapy is a non-invasive and painless skincare treatment that uses infrared lights in different wavelengths to penetrate deep into the skin. It can trigger natural intracellular processes and interactions to rejuvenate damaged skin.

The treatment was originally developed for medical purposes. In the 1990s, the U.S. Navy SEALs started utilising the LED light therapy to fuel the healing process of wounds and injured muscle tissues.

NASA also got a hold of it since going into space means the astronauts’ cuts and bruises wouldn’t restore due to the lack of gravity, oxygen, and sunlight. In other words, their cells fail to multiply. The LED light therapy steps in to help regenerate cells and repair tissues.

Since then, researchers took a closer look at the skin benefits of the treatment and it is now used even for aesthetic purposes.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS OF LED LIGHT THERAPY FOR THE SKIN?

Each frequency of light targets particular areas, thus, solving specific skin concerns. The LED light therapy is mainly noted for the following benefits:

  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production
  • Restores damaged cells and tissues
  • Smoothens the skin
  • Treats acne
  • Minimises the appearance of wrinkles and age spots
  • Regulates the skin’s natural oil production

HOW DOES LED LIGHT THERAPY WORK?

LED light devices usually come with varying wavelengths of light – including blue, yellow, green, amber and red – which can be absorbed by the receptors in the skin. The light acts as a source of energy that can catalyse the renewal of your skin’s tissues.

As mentioned, each spectrum or colour corresponds to a specific target treatment in your skin. Note that LED lights can render varying biological effects depending on the depths of their penetration. You need to understand what each of these frequencies or LED light colour settings do in order for you to utilise the one that can better address your skin woes.

RED LED LIGHT THERAPY 630nm

Also known as infrared light, the red LED light works on the outer layer of skin called epidermis. Generally, it can help soothe inflammation and reverse the signs of ageing.

The lighter shades of red usually help reduce the appearance of redness and improve circulation. Meanwhile, the deeper end of the spectrum focuses more on cell regeneration.

When absorbed by the epidermis, red light acts on fibroblasts (cells in the skin) to boost the natural production of collagen and elastin. Note that these are proteins that support the structure of your skin, making it look fuller and plumped up.

BLUE LED LIGHT THERAPY 470nm

Used to target the sebaceous glands, the Blue LED light can control the oil production, purify the skin, and help prevent breakouts and acne lesions. It possesses an antibacterial property that can kill the acne-causing bacteria that sits below your skin.

From small zits to severe pimples such as cysts and nodules, this wavelength is your effective acne remedy that does not irritate the skin. This LED light colour can also help treat psoriasis and eczema.

Tip: You’ll never go wrong with this LED light combination that can further treat acne: blue light that fights the bacteria plus red LED light that alleviates the redness.

GREEN LED LIGHT THERAPY 520nm

Green LED light therapy hands you the beauty solution to skin discolouration, such as hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, sunspots, and dark circles. It evens out the skin tone and can definitely take your complexion care a notch higher.

By theory, this LED light targets the bottom layer of the epidermis, specifically the melanin-producing cells. It works by inhibiting excess melanin from developing and travelling up the skin’s surface.

YELLOW LED LIGHT THERAPY 590nm

This LED light colour can infiltrate in the further depths of your skin, targeting the light receptors on the cells. It can be your greatest weapon to combat fine lines, wrinkles, and other factors that indicate ageing. Yellow LED light therapy can also improve circulation on your skin and minimise redness.

PURPLE (red & blue) & WHITE LED LIGHT THERAPY

Also referred to as near infra-red light, this LED light colour setting has the longest wavelength, thus, it can penetrate deepest into the skin. This way, you can ensure that your skin does not only look radiant on the outside but most especially stays healthy when extended far down the skin’s layers. White LED light therapy comes with a myriad of benefits, including:

  • Heals acne scars
  • Tightens the skin
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Clears sun damage and dark spots

Note: You can choose to use one of these light colour settings or combine different wavelengths when undergoing treatments.

WHAT SKIN TYPES ARE IDEAL FOR LED LIGHT THERAPY?

LED therapy is suitable for all skin types and tones. People who are experiencing rosacea can also benefit from LED light facial treatments.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT LED LIGHT THERAPY OPTIONS?

You can either opt for LED facial light therapies through in-salon treatments or at-home LED light face masks.

IN-SALON LED LIGHT FACIAL TREATMENTS

These are therapy options that are performed in dermatological clinics, aestheticians’ offices, spas, and doctor’s offices. It will usually take 15 minutes for an in-office LED light therapy to finish. Since the results of light therapy for skin are cumulative, the salons will likely require you to go through 10 sessions or more.

AT-HOME LED LIGHT FACIAL OPTIONS

You can also enjoy a rejuvenating photo facial session without setting an appointment at a skin clinic. Props to at-home LED light treatment devices, you can now unmask a radiant, healthy skin even at the comforts of your home! The steps are pretty easy and won’t have the need for rocket science for you to reap the benefits of photo facial therapies.

HOW TO PERFORM A LED LIGHT FACIAL TREATMENT AT HOME:

  1. Make sure that you cleanse your face. It is important that you decongest and purify your pores before wearing the face mask.
  2. After your skin has completely dried up, place the LED light facial treatment device across your face. You can gradually increase the usage from 10 to 30 minutes, twice or thrice per week.
  3. Connect the power supply line of the mask (head and neck) to the output hole of the power control box.
  4. Connect the power supply line to the power control box.
  5. Select “COLOR SELECT/START” button (01-07 is red, blue, green, yellow, cyanine, purple, white).
  6. Default time is 30 minutes; you can change this with “TIME” button up or down.
  7. “MICROELECTRONICS” regulates the micro electric strength (01-09).
  8. “BRIGHTNESS” selects the intensity of light (01-09).
  9. “FLICKER” selects the flashing mode.
  10. Adjust the tightness of the band.

AVOID STARING AT THE LIGHT SOURCE.

Close your eyes and if the light is too strong you can cover the eyes using cotton pads or eye shades.

Apply moisturiser or serum to complete the routine. This may not be a requisite, but it can significantly help in leaving your skin supple and glowing.

HOW SAFE IS LED LIGHT FACIAL THERAPY?

LED light facial therapies are completely safe so long as they are performed properly. Since the spectrum of light does not use UV rays, they are guaranteed harm-free and will not give you a tan. In fact, this procedure has shown no reported side effects during clinical trials.

WHEN IS LED LIGHT FACIAL THERAPY NOT RECOMMENDED?

However, it is important to note that certain illnesses can make you a poor candidate to undergo an LED light facial therapy. If you have the following conditions, you might want to approach the procedure and LED face mask products with extra caution.

Active rash, Migraines, Epilepsy, Eye conditions, Seizures, Haemorrhage, Cancer, Pregnancy

It is also not advisable for people who use Accutane or isotretinoin for acne. This drug can make your skin sensitive to light, therefore, increases the risk of scarring. Other medications that might affect your exposure to LED light facial masks include tetracycline or steroids.

Furthermore, don’t neglect to look out for post-procedure symptoms such as pain, rash, hives, redness, or intensified inflammation.

It always pays to consult with professionals if you feel unsure about undergoing facial light therapy.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A LED LIGHT FACIAL THERAPY?

When getting LED light facial treatments at salons, you will be required to wear protective goggles so as to prevent the light from damaging your eyes.

Here’s another important note: you should remove all your makeup during the session – whether you’re receiving in-office LED light therapy or at-home face treatment using a device.

AFTER-PROCEDURE STEPS: WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT AFTER THE LED LIGHT THERAPY?

Given that you have just undergone a phototherapy treatment, you might now wonder: what’s next?

The good thing about LED light therapy is that it is not an invasive procedure, so your skin won’t need recovery time. You can proceed with your usual routine immediately after.

You might be able to see and feel minimal differences after the first treatment. But as mentioned, the results are progressive and it usually requires a few sessions for the changes to become highly evident.

One thing to remember is that the results of LED light therapy for skin are not permanent. If you’ve received treatments from spas and dermatological clinics, your service provider will normally require you to maintenance treatments every after a few months or so.

But if you already have an LED light facial device at home, you have the freedom to perform the therapy on your own – advisably two to three times a week.

The exciting part about the beauty industry is that it always has something new to offer! Staying in the know with the latest skincare trends can definitely take you places. If you haven’t tried LED light therapy yet, it’s about time that you should give it a go! After all, there’s certainly a reason why it’s making waves – and it’s best if you get to see it for yourself.
